Cole Porter Piano Series

New-York Historical Society
2 West 77th Street
New York

Informal performance of Cole Porter and American Songbook pieces in Smith Gallery.

New-York Historical Society is playing host to Cole Porter’s 1907 Steinway piano from his time as a long-term resident at the Waldorf Astoria. The piano, nicknamed “High Society,” was used to compose classics like “Anything Goes” and “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” and was a fixture in the Waldorf Astoria lobby for years after Porter’s death.

Join us to hear the recently restored piano in action during select Pay-as-you-wish Fridays this May and June. Pianist Daryl Sherman will bring the piano to life with live performances of Cole Porter classics and selections from the Great American Songbook in the Museum’s Robert H. and Clarice Smith New York Gallery of American History.

Daryl Sherman is a pianist and vocalist who has been part of the New York jazz and cabaret scene since the mid-1970s. She had a stunning 14-year run playing Cole Porter’s piano at the Waldorf Astoria for countless guests, and was also honored to play for the late composer’s family.
